Thank you

We would like to thank everyone who has sent messages of support and kind thoughts over the past couple of months.  We are delighted to let you know that John is recovering well, and that we have now been able to re-open the website for online ordering.

Term 1, 2018

Jane is about to start teaching Term 1 classes here in Bowral.

The "Japanese Peony & Bumble Bee" class is completely full, but we have a few places available for “The Handmade Book – Class Two”, and the very popular "Green Japanese Ginger Plant" goldwork class.  The Japanese Peony class will run again later in the year, but this will be your last chance to attend the "Green Japanese Ginger Plant" class in Bowral.

Please contact us as soon as possible if you would like to book a spot for either “The Handmade Book – Class Two” or the "Green Japanese Ginger Plant" class.

Phone us on 0248 611 029 or email us at jane@janenicholas.com

Fee: $192 plus kit $25 Deposit: $95

Making books by hand is great fun and very creative - the options for covers, pages and bindings are numerous. Over two days we will continue to explore some of the possibilities of long-stitch binding - one of the simplest and most versatile bindings (long stitch is a form of running and double running stitch). Long-stitch binding can be used to construct a variety of books, including notebooks, travel journals, photo albums, scrap books, ideas diaries, stitch or embroidery sample books, and even a needle book.

In “The Handmade Book – Class Two” we will make a small notebook, to learn basic book making techniques, then commence work on a Fabric-covered Journal with a leather spine, and a Book with a Leather Wrap-around Cover. As there may not be time to complete both books in class, information will be provided to finish them at your leisure.

While some materials will be supplied, this class gives you the opportunity to use the papers of your choice to create your own unique books.

All welcome

Saturday 3 February 2018 - 9.00 am - 4.00 pm, Saturday 10 February 2018 - 10.30 am – 5.00 pm

This goldwork panel features a stylised ginger plant motif, inspired by a Japanese family crest. Using traditional goldwork techniques, and a variety of silk and metallic threads, and green kid leather, this small embroidered medallion may be worked on ivory silk, satin, or vintage kimono silk, or the fabric of your choice. The finished panel may be framed or mounted into the lid of a box.

This class is suitable for all.
