Product Description

This small stumpwork panel, the second in a series of three, features the Apothecary Rose, Rosa gallica, its raised petals worked in detached buttonhole stitch, a Cornflower, Centaurea cyanus, with petals worked in needleweaving, Borage, Borago officianalis, with embroidered detached anther and petals, and Redcurrants, Ribes rubrum, the currants worked with wrapped beads.  The panel is worked on ivory silk duchesse satin, and has a border of fine red lines, worked in back stitch.

Kit Contents

This embroidery kit contains all materials required to work this project:

  • Ivory silk duchess satin, quilter's muslin, tracing paper, clear self-adhesive plastic, beads and coloured wires.
  • Threads – Soie d'Alger Silk, Madeira Silk, YLI Silk Stitch Silk, Sampler Threads from the Gentle Art Cotton, and DMC Stranded Cottons.

Equipment Required

You will need the following equipment:

  • A copy of Shakespeare's Flowers in Stumpwork, which contains all the diagrams and instructions
  • 25cm (10 in) embroidery hoop, slate frame or stretcher bars
  • Two 10 or 13cm (4 or 5 in) embroidery hoops
  • Needles:
    • Crewel/Embroidery sizes 5 - 10
    • Straw/Milliners sizes 3 - 9
    • Sharps size 11 or 12
    • Tapestry sizes 26 - 28
    • Chenille size 20
    • Sharp Yarn Darners sizes 14 - 18
  • Small sharp-pointed embroidery scissors
  • Fine blunt-nosed tweezers to shape wire
  • Small wire cutters or old scissors
  • 13 mm (½ in) Scotch Removable Magic Tape
